Cotton’s birth anniversary to be ‘State festival’

May 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The 212th birth anniversary of Sir Arthur Cotton on May 15 will be celebrated as a State festival. As part of the programme, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will address a gathering of around 4,500 engineers at Rajahmundry.

Besides paying tributes to Sir Cotton, who has ‘gifted’ the Dowleswaram barrage in East Godavari district and Prakasam Barrage to people of Andhra Pradesh, the meeting will evolve strategies for conserving the precious river waters and making an optimum use of them.

It was also planned to felicitate the family members of Veeranna, an engineer who had the fortune of working with Sir Arthur Cotton.

Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao is personally supervising the arrangements and has broached the subject with the Chief Minister on a couple of occasions.
