Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa has said the government was relying more on technology to ensure effective policing.
Speaking after inaugurating the ‘model’ One Town police station here, developed at a cost of ₹1.40 crore, he said the government had resolved to develop 70 police stations as ‘model’ stations in the State to improve surveillance. “There was a manpower shortage of 15,000 policemen at the time of bifurcation. We have recruited 6,000 constables till now and will recruit another 3,150 soon,” he said.
At the command control unit while watching screens receiving images of various locations in the city from closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras, Mr. Chinarajappa extolled district TDP President A. Srinivasa Reddy for funding cameras, which were all over the city.
He expressed concern over the rise of illegal activities like matka gambling, cricket betting and skill games, and detailed steps to curtail them.
In Rayachoty, the Home Minister inaugurated another model police station, developed at a cost of ₹1.40 crore. He admitted that work pressure had increased on policemen, who, apart from maintaining law and order, were being deployed to deal with national calamities.
