‘Contesting GP polls testifies I’m not Maoist’

May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - BENGALURU:

Vittala Malekudiya, who is facing the charge of being a “Maoist sympathiser” and contesting from Kutlur in GP elections, asserted that his participation in the polls testifies that he is neither a Maoist nor a sympathiser of the Maoist movement.

Participating in an interaction programme organised by the Patrakartara Adyayana Kendra, Mr. Malekudiya, who recently appeared for the Karnataka Administrative Service examination, said he would fight against any attempt of the government to evacuate people in the name of development. “I will fight for the rights of local people in the democratic framework and oppose implementation of the Kudremukh National Park and tiger projects, which are aimed at dislocating people,” he said.

Dubbing the charge sheet filed against him as an attempt to terrorise those who refuse to relocate from forests, he said.
