Congress ticks off Jagan

September 08, 2011 12:24 pm | Updated 12:24 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Congress leaders have ticked off the YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy for his observation that he would not hesitate to support the UPA government after the 2014 polls.

Congress leaders said the Kadapa MP was jittery after the arrest of former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy in the illegal mining case and was thus trying to protect himself by seeking to come closer to the UPA.

Health Minister D. L. Ravindra Reddy wondered whether the Congress would give the same respect to Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, if at all he planned to return to its fold. “Congress will never invite a corrupt politician like him,” he said.

‘Never loyal'

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson N. Tulasi Reddy said the Congress party would not benefit at all by the Kadapa MP's support. Jubilee Hills MLA P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy took a dig at the YSR Congress chief stating that the late YSR and his son had never been loyal to the ruling party.

Meanwhile, YSR Congress party spokesperson Ambati Rambabu said Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy had clearly said he would never join the Congress nor have a truck with the BJP. “A section of the media is deliberately trying to spread falsehoods about his statement. Our leader will never fear anyone. He is prepared for any eventuality as he is confident of coming out unscathed,” he said.

He said Mr. Jagan wanted to send a strong signal that he would have no association with the BJP.

The ruling party leaders were day-dreaming if they imagined Mr. Jagan would surrender to the Congress under pressure of the cases registered against him by the CBI, he added.
