The Congress party’s central leadership is not in a hurry to take a decision on the offer of Home Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy to resign her post in the wake of her name being included in the CBI charge-sheet.
The party intends to first take a look at the contents of the CBI charge-sheet in the Y.S. Jagamohan Reddy assets case, in which Ms. Sabitha is named as fourth accused.
The party is in the process of getting the charge-sheet examined. AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad is expected to brief party president Sonia Gandhi once she returns from abroad.
APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, in the meantime, met Mr. Azad on Wednesday night and briefed him about the latest developments. Sources said, Mr. Satyanarayana sought the central leadership’s direction to overcome the situation wherein the Congress Ministers were facing charges in the assets case. As the debate on whether she would quit or not continues, some more Ministers rallied behind her and met Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. However, a section of the Ministers expressed divergent views on the issue. Health Minister D.L. Ravindra Reddy, reportedly urged the central leadership to see that the tainted Ministers were dropped from the Cabinet.
