‘Congress government in State safe'

AICC official dismisses reports that MLAs supporting Jagan could destabilise government

May 31, 2011 07:44 pm | Updated June 01, 2011 02:54 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Amid reports that the Congress government headed by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy in Andhra Pradesh may find it difficult to survive if the TDP moves a no-confidence motion against it, the Congress high command seems to have no apprehensions on the issue.

“Our government led by Mr. Reddy is absolutely safe. There is no need to give credence to reports doubting the stability of the government,” said All India Congress Committee Secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh S.S. Krishnamoorthy.

He dismissed reports that some Congress MLAs, who were supporting YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, could destabilise the government by voting along with the TDP during the no-confidence motion proposed to be moved by the latter party.

“Tell me one MLA who has declared his support to that group (Jagan camp),” he challenged and added that all the Congress MLAs were with the party and they would abide by the Congress whip.

Democratic right

Asked about TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu's challenge to Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy to face the no-confidence motion to be moved by the TDP,

Mr. Krishnamoorthy said in a democratic set-up they had every right to go according to rules and procedures of the Legislative Assembly and the Congress would boldly face the move.

About a few Congress MLAs expressing displeasure on some developments in the party, he said in a political set-up such expression was allowed. He added that there was a forum where such opinions could be expressed.

Meanwhile, former AP Chief Minister K. Rosaiah was here on a day's visit during which he met senior Congress leaders, including Motilal Vora and Ahmed Patel, discussed the latest political developments in the State in view of the Jagan factor.

Courtesy calls

He described the meetings as courtesy calls as he had visited Delhi for the first time after resigning as Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister has already dared Mr. Naidu to move a no-confidence motion against his government.

He was ready to face the no-confidence motion at any time and asserted that despite all the political manipulations by his detractors, the Congress government in the State would not only last till 2014 but would also bounce back to power in the next elections.
