Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Committee on the Welfare of the Scheduled Tribes P Rajanna Dora has expressed his displeasure over the alleged non-compliance of the provisions of rule of reservation for tribals particularly “100 per cent” reservations for local tribals in class V jobs in the Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) in the scheduled areas.
Mr. Dora was speaking at a high-level review meeting chaired by Speaker Nadendla Manohar at Anjubaka, an interior tribal hamlet at Dummugudem mandal bordering Chhattisgarh, on Tuesday. Several members of the committee, including its Chairman voiced their serious concern over the “tardy implementation” of the rule of reservation and GOs like 34 and 97 by the companies in the Bhadrachalam Agency.
Expressing his dissatisfaction over the action taken reports read out by the officials concerned of the KTPS and the SCCL, Mr Dora said the displaced tribal families were deprived of the due compensation and jobs in lieu of their lands acquired by the companies in the scheduled areas.
He said tribal employees at present constitute a meagre 4.9 percent of the total employees of the SCCL. Various GOs governing the provision of compensation and employment were not being implemented in letter and spirit, he deplored.
Union Minister for Social Justice P. Balram Naik found fault with the officials concerned of the KTPS for the inordinate delay in recruitment of class V jobs including contract and outsourcing jobs for ST candidates. Mr Manohar directed the KTPS officials to complete the recruitment drive expeditiously and report compliance before the committee on the Assembly premises in Hyderabad on April 20.
In his inaugural remarks, Mr. Manohar said the government had accorded top priority to welfare of the STs as was evident from the enactment of legislation exclusively for implementation of the SC and ST sub-plan. He disbursed pattas for 56 acres to the poor tribal people under the land purchase scheme.
