Rama temples in every nook and comer of the city are decked up for the grandiose celestial wedding of Lord Rama and goddess Sita on Sri Rama Navami, which falls on Monday.
Residential colonies and apartments are also vying with each other to perform the heavenly wedding in a befitting manner by pitching make-shift tents and shamianas.
The busy business street — Besant Road, where the Kodanda Ramalayam is situated — witnessed erection of a huge pandal by the traders and the committee members are working overtime to make the wedding and the festivities that follows, in a grand success.
“Sri Rama Navami celebrations on Besant Road is the biggest celebration in the city. The nine-day celebrations are held in a grand way every year. Thousands of devotees throng the temple for darshan,” said P. Ram Prasad, a committee member.
Hoary past
He said the temple was built by traders in 1959 and the idols were installed in 1978.
“Since 1959, all the traders formed as unity, and donating a certain amount, the celebrations are done in a grand manner.” Poor-feeding is being taken up the committee.
The processional deities will be decorated with silk clothes and the kalyanotsavam would be performed by priests in a specially decorated kalyana mandapam.
Collector offers clothes
Meanwhile, the organising committee of Seetharamachandra Swamy temple in Governorpet and Sri Durga Malleswara Swami Devasthanam at Indrakeeladri, performed the celestial wedding a grand manner on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Collector B. Lakshmikantham and his wife Shoba Latha offered silk clothes and talambralu to the deities at the Kalyanamahotsavam, performed at Sri Kodandaramalayam located on Old Police Station road at Krishnalanka
The temple management was celebrating Navami Utsavams, and temple chief priests, P. Venugopala Sharma and P. Srinivasa Sharma, performed the kalyanam.
Arrangements
Temple committee chairman Kolapalli Koteswara Rao, members Gantikota Subramanya Sharma, Bolisetti Satyanarayana, Nimmala Durga Rao, Ghanta Shoban Babu, Chinta Pushpa, Kesanam Bhavanarayana and others were monitoring the arrangements for the devotees during the utsavams.
