The Chittoor Task Force police on Friday arrested another Chinese national Chenyi Fian (42), at a hotel in Pahar Ganj in New Delhi. Fian is a resident of Xianmen town, Fujian province. Based on his information, the police party seized a dump of eight tonnes of A-Grade red sanders logs at a godown in Faridabad, 31 km from Delhi, in the early hours of Saturday. The dump is said to be worth over Rs. 5 crore.

The Chittoor Superintendent of Police, Ghattamaneni Srinivas, told The Hindu that acting on a tip-off, a special party, left for Chennai on Friday evening, from where they air-dashed to New Delhi, leading to the arrest of Fian.

Red sanders seized

“Our force reached the hotel where Fian was staying, and could successfully nab him while he was about to leave the area around 10-20 p.m. [Friday]. After thorough surveillance and checking of his suit, our party detected some artefacts made of red sanders wood. It included the wooden Buddha idol and similar objects. His interrogation led to the seizure of eight tonnes of logs at a godown in Faridabad. We are getting him to Chittoor on a transit warrant. It will take a couple of days. At present, we have nabbed only this Chinese national," the SP said.

Mr. Srinivas said that there was a criminal case on, Fian with FIR filed at a police station in Chittoor district.
