The Tirupati urban police on Saturday evening released the sketch of the person who allegedly lifted a child on the premises of a choultry at Tirumala on Friday morning. Superintendent of Police Anbhurajan said that special teams were formed to nab the culprit and rescue the child.

In the early hours of Friday, the unidentified person took away an 18-month-old boy from his mother’s lap while the family members from Maharashtra were asleep.

Taking a complaint from the parents, the Tirumala police intensified the search for the child lifter. The CC camera footage from various places in Tirumala and Tirupati were verified.

They showed the movements of the stranger carrying the child. Based on the CC camera footage, the police released a sketch of the accused.

The police took up thorough surveillance of the public places all over the district, and elsewhere in the border States.

No clue at Guntakal

Special Correspondent from Anantapur writes: The Guntakal Government Railway Police on Saturday watched the CCTV footage following information that the suspect in the Tirumala child kidnapping case bought a train ticket to Guntakal at Tirupati.

The suspect reportedly boarded the train at 8.50 a.m. and was supposed to reach Guntakal at 8.50 p.m. on Friday, but the Railway Police Inspector Gurnath Babu said they were informed about the suspicion on Saturday morning by which time the culprit would have alighted the train.

Closed Circuit TV footage at Guntakal, however, did not reveal any clue and the suspect, whose photos were sent from Tirupati, did not match with anyone, the Circle Inspector told The Hindu.

Dharmavaram GRP Circle Inspector T. Mohan Prasad said they were watching the CCTV footage at smaller stations en route.
