BJP senior leader Ch. Vidyasagar Rao has demanded that TDP president and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should resign his legislative seat and also as Leader of the Opposition following the Andhra Pradesh High Court instructing the CBI to conduct an inquiry into his assets following the allegations.
Talking to newsmen here on Friday, he said that the TDP president should ensure transparency in the conduct of inquiry by resigning to his legislative seat and uphold the democratic values.
Saying that BJP leader L.K. Advani had also resigned to his Member of Parliament seat following the allegations in the Hawala case, he added that Mr. Advani had contested the elections only after securing clean chit in the case. He also urged the TDP leaders to maintain silence till the completion of CBI inquiry instead of blaming the authorities and inquiry team.
Flaying the elected representative for making mockery of democracy and deceiving the people of Telangana region by submitting false resignations, he questioned: “When the electorate has elected the leaders by casting valid votes, why not the representatives submit their resignations with validity?.
He also found fault with the Speakers of both the Lok Sabha and State Assembly for delaying the acceptance of resignations of the elected representatives. He demanded that the Speakers should accept the resignations according to constitutional rules without any delay. He also favoured introduction of recall system of all elected representatives on par with some foreign countries.
Reiterating that the his party is committed for carving out of Telangana State, he said party leader Sushma Swaraj would again raise Telangana statehood issue in the ensuing Parliament session. Refuting the allegations made by some sections that BJP leader Advani is opposing the formation of Telangana after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati announced need for carving out four States in UP, he clarified that Mr. Advani is campaigning for Telangana all along his yatra.
