Chain snatchers held, property worth Rs. 8.5 lakh recovered

The Prakasam district police on Tuesday nabbed two offenders involved in 11 chain snatching cases and recovered gold chains worth Rs. 8.50 lakh from them.

The II Town police while conducting routine vehicle-checks came across the duo identified as -- Tella Nagaraju (37) and Tella Kishore (33). During interrogation they confessed to having committed 11 offences in Ongole city, Maddipadu, Singarayakonda and Tangutur, Ongole DSP G. Srinivasa Rao told reporters here.

The DSP said the two used to ride motorcycles and relieve women of their gold chains. Police were also on the lookout for another gang member identified as Munga Nagaraj.

The gang used also wait on railway platforms and snatch gold chains from women sleeping by the window in the trains. “We are also looking out for a gang from Bihar which comes by a mini-truck loaded with motorcycles to cities and relieve unsuspecting women of their gold chains before escaping in the mini-trucks,” he said.
