Member of Parliament K. Kavitha has said that she made a request to the Centre to construct a dry port in the district so as to boost up economic activity with so many commercial crops being grown in the region.

Dry port, if sanctioned to be built between Armoor and Balkonda, would have very good rail and road connectivity and government could also allot suitable land for the purpose. “I have met the Union Minister Nirmala Seetharam and placed the proposal before her, said she while talking to media persons, here on Tuesday.

Earlier, on her arrival along with the SCR General Manager P.K. Srivastava and Divisional Manager Aruna Singh in a special train at the railway station here she laid foundation for elevator facility, R.O plant and inaugurated the automatic ticket vending machine.

“Peddapally-Nizamabad railway line, the two decade old dream of north Telangana people is going to be completed by March end as with the coordinated effort with the SCR authorities I could get sanctioned an amount of Rs.140 crores this year”, she added.

“But for the efforts of Ms. Kavitha we could not get sanctioned the huge amount for the speedy completion of the new railway line. Some minor problems relating to the land acquisition are there and the line probably would become operational by coming March”, said the General Manager.

He said a lot facilities would come up in the Nizamabad railway station to make it a model station. The proposed facilities, included two master water coolers with eight taps on each side on Platform-I and II, an R.O plant, another foot-over bridge, high mast lighting, parking lots before the station, station beautification and so on.

Booking office would be renovated and railway station be upgraded.

Similarly, an enquiry counter would be opened at Kamareddy railway station, he said and claimed that the Passenger and Customer Facilitation Fortnight conducted from May 26 to June 9 evoked good response. Later, the dignitaries went round the station and observed cleanliness. A medical camp was also organised.

Among those who were present on the occasion, included MLAs B. Ganesh Gupta, B. Govardhan, ZP chairman D. Raju, Mayor Akula Sujatha and Collector D. Ronald Rose.
