“My father used to speak with us every week or 10 days. But, a month ago, he was kidnapped by ISIS militants, and he has not spoken to us since then. My mother fell sick. We are eagerly waiting to hear from my father,” said K. Nirisha, daughter of Kosanam Ramamurthy.
The family members said Centre was not taking measures to free the abducted Indians. “We are worried and request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to see that the abducted Indians are liberated,” said Ramamurthy’s wife Kosanam Bhavani.
Meanwhile, Nekkanti Venkata Satyanarayana and Lalitha Lakshmi, parents of N. Srinivas Chakravarthy, who escaped from the clutches of Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (ISIS) terrorists in Libya, said they would be happy only when the remaining Telugu people were freed.
A native of Achanta of West Godavari district, Mr. Chakravarthy settled in Libya after landing a job in the English department at Sirte University nine years ago. He returned to India in August this year.
“When my son came to India during vacations, he used to talk to his colleagues [Kosanam Ramamurthy, Gopikrishna and Balaram] who hail from Andhra Pradesh. Telugu settlers in Sirte used to maintain good relations there,” said Mr. Satyanarayana, a farmer.
“Last year, Chakravarthy came to Achanta, and we requested him not to go to Libya again, as terrorists were causing bloodshed there. My son said he would return soon after clearing the formalities and travelled to Sirte. But, the situation deteriorated in a few days, and he was trapped in Sirte when it was besieged by ISIS militants,” said Ms. Lalitha Lakshmi.
“Fortunately, he escaped. But, we are not happy, his colleagues were abducted by terrorists, and their whereabouts are not known till today,” she added.
We are eagerly waiting to hear from my father, says K. Nirisha, daughter of Kosanam Ramamurthy
