Centre admits to delay in Pudimadaka power project

Coal linkages, clearances not accorded yet: R.K. Singh

Union Minister of State for Power R.K. Singh, in response to a question by MP V. Vijayasai Reddy, informed the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that certain impediments like coal linkage and clearances caused inordinate delay in the progress of the NTPC Supercritical Power Plant proposed at Pudimadaka in Visakhapatnam district.

The project completion time was 48 months.

Mr. Singh said the request for long-term lease of high quality coal blocks was made on October 31, 2016. He admitted that the Centre would not give any Gross Budgetary Support to the project.

Solar city

Responding to another question, Mr. Singh said though the Ministry of New and Renewable Energyaccorded in-principle approval for development of Kakinada as a solar city, no sanction could be issued and funds released as no proposals were received from NREDC of A.P.
