CBCID to probe fake passbook cases

The State government has decided to entrust the cases relating to issuing of fake Pattadar passbooks and title deeds in Anantapur, Guntur and Nellore districts to the CBCID for a comprehensive investigation.

According to the GO issued here on Friday, CBCID Additional Director General has been requested to thoroughly investigate and take action against the officials and non-officials involved in the malpractice.

He has been also requested to complete the investigation within three months and submit a detailed report along with his findings and recommendation for taking further action.

Mentioning the background of the case, the GO said that consequent to busting of the fake Pattadar passbooks racket by police, 15 revenue teams have been formed to verify Pattadar passbooks submitted by farmers to various banks and 60 criminal cases were booked in various police stations.

As many as 1,998 fake Pattadar passbooks, which are in circulation and 23,068 empty Pattadar passbooks (without any entries or signatures) were seized and 61 persons have been arrested including nine VROs.

Quoting Anantapur Collector, the GO mentioned that there are specific evidences/ instances where some of the computer assistants working in the offices of Tahsildars had colluded with criminal gangs and altered official entries and data. It is necessary to analyse the entire database of the web-land in National Informatics Centre, Hyderabad. Many farmers had obtained loans from banks by producing fake Pattadar passbooks and these farmers were benefited from loan waiver scheme. The data of ‘Rythu Runa Mafee’ has to be analysed with web database to arrive at the amount misused. The amount misappropriated is expected to run into tens of crores of rupees, it is learnt.
