Bus with 50 passengers plunges into gorge near Tirupati

A bus carrying about 50 members, all belonging to a marriage party, plunged into a 50 feet-deep gorge at Bhakarapeta ghat section while on its way from Dharmavaram in Anantapur district to Tirupati on March 26 night around 10:30 p.m. Preliminary information is that its driver was killed, while information of any injuries or casualties among the passengers is not clear. The accident site is 20 km from Tirupati.

The passing motorists, on hearing the agonised shrieks from the gorge, noticed the mishap. Police from Chandragiri and Tirupati, along with ambulances, had rushed to the spot. It was observed that the rescue operations had turned difficult as it was pitch-dark.
