In a significant political development that is likely to have an impact on the political scenario in North Coastal Andhra, including the forthcoming biennial elections to local bodies’ constituencies in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, former AP Congress Committee president Botcha Satyanarayana joined the YSR Congress here on Sunday along with his kin and followers.

A large number of followers of Mr. Satyanarayana, including DCCB chairperson Thulasi, DCMS chairperson Ramana Raju, APCC general secretary Y. Ramanamurthy followed him . They were welcomed into YSR Congress by party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy with the customary presentation of party scarves.

Mr. Satyanarayana’s family members including his wife Botcha Jhansi, a two-time former MP from Bobbili and Vizianagaram, his younger brother Botcha Appala Narasaiah and his cousin B. Appala Naidu switched sides to YSR Congress at its central office at Lotus Pond here. “Almost all Congress ranks from Vizianagaram except one or two have joined YRS Congress along with us,” Mr. Satyanarayana said soon after his formal switching over.

Sources in the YSR Congress stated that Mr. Jagan is likely to give appropriate responsibility to Mr. Satyanarayana to strengthen the party, though some leaders opposed his entry into the party.
