‘The saffron party will meet the fate of the Congress’

TDP spokesperson K. Rammohan Rao has asked the BJP leaders to explain people why they failed to honour the commitments made in the A.P. Reorganisation Act before addressing election meetings in the State.

Alleging that Union Ministers and other BJP leaders were visiting the State only to turn the tables on the TDP, Mr. Rammohan Rao said people were watching the saffron party’s game plan and would teach a fitting lesson to it in the elections.

Issues at stake

An amount of ₹4,000 crore was pending release from the Centre. The Modi government had gone back on granting Special Category Status (SCS) to the State, funding the revenue deficit, and sanctioning funds for Amaravati. The new railway zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam was sanctioned, but the 125-year-old Waltair Division was being done away with, he said, and added that the BJP was not interested in the aspirations and welfare of the people of the State. Accusing the YSRCP leaders of reading the script given by the BJP, Mr. Rammohan Rao said the TDP had no objection if both these parties joined hands, but there was no need for them to maintain secrecy.

“We too had an alliance with the BJP. But we walked out of the NDA after it became clear that it was not interested in implementing the promises made in the Act,” he said.

Describing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as “brand ambassador” for the State, he said YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy failed in his duty as Leader of the Opposition by not attending the Assembly and raising issues pertaining to the State. He predicted that the BJP would suffer the fate of the Congress.

I-T raids

On the series of I-T raids on TDP leaders, Mr. Rammohan Rao alleged that the officials were targeting only the TDP leaders while leaving the YSRCP and BJP leaders. The raids were intended to tarnish the image of the TDP and terrorise its leaders, he said.

TDP city president S.A. Rahaman and Araku Parliamentary constituency in- charge Kaki Govinda Reddy were present.
