BJP leaders slam Antony

June 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has trained its guns on senior Congress leader A.K. Antony, unleashing a scathing attack on him for his recent comments on the state of minorities under the Modi government and on the performance of the Oommen Chandy government.

Speaker after speaker at the party’s Aruvikkara by-election convention attacked Mr. Antony for playing ‘opportunistic politics.’ BJP State unit president V. Muraleedharan asked whether Mr. Antony had forgotten his own speech a few years ago, when he had criticised the minorities. “Mr. Antony is now saying that the minorities are living in fear under the Modi government. But he himself had criticised minorities for exerting enormous pressure and cornering undue benefits. Marad, the biggest communal clashes the State has witnessed, occurred under his rule,” he said.
