Big ticket projects promise bright future for Prakasam: Collector

‘Veligonda will address water woes’

The 70th Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and patriotic fervour across Prakasam and Nellore districts on Saturday.

Prakasam Collector V.Vinay Chand, who unfurled the tricolour and inspected the ceremonial parade by the police personnel and NCC cadets, said the big ticket projects like the Ramayapatnam seaport, a paper mill by Asia Pulp and Paper and establishment of a jetty by the JSW group in Ramayapatanam in the coming years was sure to put the district on the path of accelerated growth and provide jobs to lakhs of youth.

The Veligonda project, which was on the last leg of completion, would help the district administration find a permanent solution to the water woes of the people in the drought-hit district, he said. He said over ₹1,000 crore had been spent to provide wage employment under MG-NREGS to mitigate the sufferings due to drought conditions.

Twenty-two tableaux of various state departments and cultural programmes by schoolchildren stood as the highlights of the event.

Logistics hub

In Nellore, Collector R.Muthyala Raju hoisted the national flag and inspected the ceremonial parade by the police personnel. The Collector highlighted the government’s welfare initiatives, including the NTR Bharaso and outlined the major projects in the pipeline, including the new international airport at Damavaram which was sure to turn the district into a major cargo and logistics hub.
