June 08, 2013 11:18 am | Updated 11:18 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A large number of people of Backward Classes staged a demonstration near the Indira Park here demanding a sub-plan for the BCs with an allocation of Rs. 20,000 crore, 50 per cent reservation and house sites to the poor and homeless in the State. The demonstration was led by R. Krishnaiah, president, Andhra Pradesh State BCs’ Welfare Association.

Addressing the gathering, he recalled that for the last 65 years since Independence, the BCs had been facing injustice on socio-political and economic fronts.

Over the years, awareness about the injustice being meted out to them had increased and so had leadership among the BCs, he said

Decades of struggle had got them reservation in education and employment and representation in the local bodies. All that was needed now was political reservations, he stated.
