CPI says intolerance should be nipped in the bud

Smearing of black paint on Observer and Research foundation chairman Sudheendra Kulkarni allegedly by activists of Shiv Sena, has come for strong condemnation.

Doctor-turned-actor Madala Ravi said attacking Mr. Kulkarni, who had organised the release of the memoir of former Pakistan Minister Khurshid Mahmud, was an attack on ‘free speech.’

“One may not agree to his (Khurshid Mahmud’s) view points. But it is undemocratic to prevent the release of releasing his book,” said Ravi who heads the Film division of the Indian People's Theatre Association in Andhra Pradesh.

Praja Natya Mandali State unit honorary president Nalluri Venkateswarulu said the fascist forces had been raising its ugly head after the BJP’s ascendancy to power at the Centre.“It is unfortunate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is silent on the attack on intellectuals,” CPI State secretary K. Ramakrishna said and expressed concern over the gunning down of rationalists M. M. Kalburgi, Govind Pansare and Narendra Dabholkar.

Meanwhile, Indian Society for Cultural Cooperation and Friendship (ISCCF) National Executive Member Nalli Dharma Rao, Srikakulam wing new president Palisetti Madhubabu expressed concern over the attack on writers and literary personalities for airing their views in a democratic manner.
