At a slow pace

The toy train is a big attraction for children and young couples. It has a closed engine and five open air ‘bogies’ that have 10 wooden seats. Two persons are allowed in each seat and the train moves on a track laid years back at a slow pace. For a fare of ₹10 you can enjoy a 10-minute ride that provides a panoramic view of the city; the scenic beauty of the Krishna River banks and trains in the railway station snaking in and out of their tracks can be seen in a new light.

“The track is not in good condition which does not allow me to increase the speed,” says Murali, driver.

Earlier, he informs, the track was maintained by the South Central Railway. “Officials used to come at regular intervals to ensure proper working of the track. But they have stopped coming for last five years,” he says.
