Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) is likely to conduct re-examination for a few papers for the recruitment of assistant professors in Andhra University and 13 other public universities in the State.
APPSC had conducted the screening test for recruitment of 1,108 assistant professors in the various universities in the State from April 9 to 13. The results were declared on July 16, as per sources in Andhra University, the aspirants have not fared well in some of the papers.
The test was conducted for 69 subjects and the results were declared for around 40 of them. It is learnt that in some of the subjects the pass percentage as per the cut off was very poor. “For example in economics it is learnt that only three persons had cleared the test and in some of the subjects none had passed,” said a senior professor from AU.
“We are awaiting the result for the 29 remaining subjects and the decision on re-test. We have already written to the State government to substitute the appointed Governor’s nominee, as the appointed person has gone abroad. Once these things are settled down, we shall go ahead with the recruitment process,” said Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao.
The Governor’s nominee is an important part of the recruitment committee that comprises the nominee, the Vice- Chancellor, the HoD of the department concerned and three external experts.
According to Prof. Nageswara Rao, the selected persons will be called for interview and 80% of the interview marks will be based on the aspirants API (academic performance indicator), which comprise of parameters such as his or her research papers, publications, conferences attended, experience, patents and portfolios. “The remaining 20% will be given on interview and demo teaching class,” said the V-C.
Contract teachers
Clearing the air on the contract teachers, who have been demanding regularisation, he said that contract teachers may not be given the weightage marks and those who qualified will have to undergo the interview process.
“In case they fail in the interview and for those who have not qualified or attended the APPSC test, we may consider them under fixed time scale model. But it all depends on the report of the committee that was constituted to look into the issue,” said Prof. Nageswara Rao.
