Painter Raja Rambabu’s exhibition titled Childhood Vignettes perfectly captures the essence of childhood in all its innocent glory.
The paintings, which take viewers down memory lane, will be on display at Visakha Museum till Monday.
A love for the idyllic yesteryear life is a recurring motif in Mr. Rambabu’s work. “In today’s world of technology and social media, children are lost in their mobile phones playing video games and firmly attach themselves to a virtual world. I have attempted to recreate the fun and frolic of playing outdoors and the games of yesteryears, that today’s children are missing out on,” he said.
His work includes depiction of outdoor games and activities like ‘Uyyala Jampala, ‘Munjikailu’, ‘Gilli Danda’ and ‘Uppubastha’.
Mr. Rambabu deftly captured the feel of rural life, drawing upon his own childhood spent in his native Cherlopalem village. His passion for art blossomed during his childhood, which he decided to turn into a profession.
After completing his BFA from Andhra University and MFA from Mysore University, Mr. Rambabu pursued DTA acting and direction at AU.
He showcased his works of art at AMITABO, an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Indian artists in China at Buddha Monastery Tiefossi, Xian, in 2103.
He also participated in group exhibitions held at UNESCO in 2012 , KONST HUS in Sweden at Plindberg Art Gallery in 2012, took part in ‘Postcard Legacy Exhibition’ by Colorado Mesa University, US in 2012.
“The aim of this exhibition is to take the kids back to their childhood. I wanted to let the people, particularly children of today, to understand how our childhood was, and what they are missing out on,” Mr. Rambabu said.
Director and Nandi award recipient, Sunil Kumar Reddy, who visited the exhibition along with his actors and crew of his latest film ‘Romantic Criminals’, said, “The paintings were heart-touching. It visually speaks truth. Raja Rambabu’s art has a signature of its own.”
