Toxic material accumulated over the last one year at Katedan Industrial Area has been cleared by the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) under an Industrial Environment Improvement Drive.
Participating in a workshop organised at Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) here on Wednesday, APIIC Managing Director Jayesh Ranjan said similar drives have been initiated in 75 of the 300 industrial parks and zones in the State. Over 41,834 cubic metres of municipal solid waste was also removed from the 43 industrial parks across the State during the drive.
“The government is keen on containing pollution and it is not enough for industries to furnish papers and documents about pollution control measures they are adopting. The ground reality will be taken into consideration,” he said.
The APIIC is currently implementing the concept of green buildings in industrial areas and from next year it will initiate ‘Zero Wastage Building’ concept, Mr. Ranjan said. “During the drive we observed that most industrialists are aware of the pollution control measures but when it comes to implementation there are discrepancies,” he said.
FAPCCI president Srinivas Ayyadevara, FAPCCI environment committee chairman Venkat Jasti and others participated in the day-long workshop.
