Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu has said the Andhra Pradesh government is borrowing from different sources for the construction of capital Amaravati out of compulsion as the Centre did not extend the requisite financial support post bifurcation.
The State had no option except to issue the Amaravati bonds and take loans in spite of the interest burden entailed by them. “It is to divert the people’s attention from their party reneging on its commitments to A.P. that the BJP leaders have unleashed the false propaganda,” he alleged.
Mr. Ramakrishnudu stated in a press release that the Central government gave just ₹1,500 crore for the Amaravati project a long time after the State submitted a DPR for ₹40,000 crore.
White Paper
“It (the Centre) pushed A.P. into deep trouble by giving up its responsibility in the division of assets in Schedules 9 and 10.
“Above all, it backed off from its promise to give Special Category Status. If at all a white paper has to be released, it should be done by the Central government on the implementation of A.P. Reorganisation Act and a host of other promises made in Parliament,” he maintained.
The Minister said there was absolutely no truth in the allegations that the State misused the funds given by the Central government and that it kept various scandals under wraps.
The State government had been transparent in its conduct from Day One, he said, adding that the people were aware of the politics of ‘deception being jointly played by the BJP and the YSR Congress’.
