ANU students in Guntur suspended for ragging

November 23, 2015 12:20 pm | Updated 12:20 pm IST - GUNTUR:

Ragging returned to haunt the Acharya Nagarjuna University after a brief lull and it happened again in Department of Architecture and Planning. Three months after the death of a first year student Mondi Rishiteswari had shaken the campus, ragging resurfaced after the first year students complained on Saturday that the seniors had started it all over again.

The students complained to the in-charge Principal C. Rambabu and Registrar P. Raja Sekhar that the seniors had called them to hostel rooms and forced them to write notes and sometimes, to entertain them by singing songs.

This time, the ANU promptly took action by suspending three students from both the college and the hostel. The students reported the incident on Saturday and a decision to take action against their seniors was taken on Sunday.

Mr. Rajasekhar said that Vinetheswar, Manju Sainath and Swetha had been suspended indefinitely while Manoj and Surendra had been suspended from college for two months.

The university officials had also summoned the parents and issued orders in their presence.
