Anti-Narcotics Cell opened by A.K. Khan

A special Anti-Narcotics Cell within the Central Crime Station of Hyderabad police was inaugurated by the City Police Commissioner, A.K. Khan, on Thursday.

The cell would be part of the CCS and under the control of its DCP with the strength of an Inspector, six Sub-Inspectors, 10 head constables and 30 constables. The cell would comprise of Technical, Surveillance and Investigation wings.

The Cyber Crime police station of the CCS would help in analysing the crime and tracking the accused while surveillance unit would keep tab on the movements of suspects.

In past two years, the Hyderabad police had registered 19 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Around seven and 11 cases were reported in 2010 and 2011 respectively and one case so far this year was registered. Out of the 43 persons arrested, 21 were foreigners.
