Anti-airport panel to meet tomorrow

Sugathakumari to chair high-level meeting for discussing progress of cases

A high-level meeting of the State-level Anti Aranmula Airport Coordination Committee, chaired by social activist and poet Sugathakumari, will be held at the PWD Sathram Hall on the banks of the Pampa at Aranmula on Wednesday.

The meeting, to be chaired by Ms. Sugathakumari, would discuss the progress of cases pending before various courts, including the Kerala High Court, against the controversial project.

The statement said the committee would continue its agitation to ensure proper conservation of the Aranmula wetland and paddy land and restoration of natural streams that had been converted in the name of the project. The committee called upon the State government to withdraw the controversial government order notifying a vast expanse of land spread across the villages of Aranmula, Kidanganur, and Mallappuzhassery as industrial area without further delay.

M.A. Baby, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member; Kanam Rajendran, CPI State unit secretary; Kummanam Rajashekharan, AHVAC chief patron, and K.P. Sreeranganathan, environmental activist,will attend the meet.
