Temple town Srikalahasti in Chittoor sizzled with the State’s highest temperature of 45.26° Celsius on Wednesday, according to the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) State Centre, which predicted that the mercury might hover between 44°C and 46° Celsius in Rayalaseema and central coastal districts from May 19 to 23.
RTGS has stated in a press release that many parts of the State are also likely to receive very light to light rainfall, especially in north Andhra Pradesh (A.P.), up to May 29 and people should avoid the risk of lightning as the bright sunny weather can quickly turn into sudden spells of rain and gales as it happened in the recent days. Scientists involved in the AP-Weather Forecasting and Early Disaster Warning (AWARE) project of RTGS are keeping a constant watch on the changing weather and issuing extreme weather advisories from time to time.

Meanwhile, the State Disaster Management Authority issued warnings of lightning and gales in many places, particularly in the Rayalaseema region. People in Nellore and Prakasam districts suffered from the scorching heat that followed a slight drop in temperatures in the last couple of days. Several towns recorded more than 40° Celsius in both the coastal districts.
In Prakasam, the mercury touched the 44.1° Celsius mark at Tripurantakam. In Nellore district, the temperature went up in Udyagiri and Gudur to 44°C Celsius.
