May 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:09 am IST - TIRUPATI:

Saint-poet Tallapaka Annamacharya was the first public relations officer of the Lord Venkateswara, and he spread His glory across the globe through his rare Sankeertans, noted scholar Vedantam Rajagopala Chakravarthy has said.

Lecture series

As part of his three-day lecture series to mark the ‘Annamaiah Jayanthotsavams’ conducted at Annamacharya Kalamandiram in Tirupati on Thursday, Dr. Chakravarthy said the poet had given enough publicity to the rituals, festivities and other ceremonies conducted for the Lord through his numerous compositions.

Spreading the Lord’s glory

Dr. Chakravarthy added that Annamacharya had done his bit to spread the Lord’s glory across the globe, far and wide. Speaking on the occasion, Telugu scholar Srimannarayana dwelt on the philosophy behind the ace composer’s writings and described him as an environmentalist to the core, while G.B. Shankar Rao lauded the ‘Vaggeyakara’, saying he was a lyricist and singer par excellence.

Critic V.A.K. Ranga Rao spoke on the need to infuse ‘Bhava’ (feel) while rendering Annamayya’s compositions.

‘Asthanam’ held

Earlier, ‘Asthanam’ was performed with the processional deities of Sri Rama, Sita and Lakshmana brought from the TTD’s Sri Kodandarama temple.
