Citing the ‘special circumstances’ prevailing in Telangana, Communist Party of India (CPI) has announced to have an electoral understanding with the Congress there, but would oppose the party tooth-and-nail elsewhere. In Seemandhra region, the party will neither ally with the TDP, as it has cobbled up an alliance with the BJP, nor will it look towards the YSR Congress. The party is however open to an alliance with CPI (M).
CPI State secretary K. Narayana released the party’s manifesto for Seemandhra region, after its election committee for the thirteen districts met here on Wednesday. The manifesto dwelt on bringing the Leftist and democratic forces together to solve the problems plaguing the common man. The bleak power situation, shooting prices of essential commodities and the logjam in the development schemes are among the issues cited in the manifesto.
Addressing media persons at the ‘Meet the Press’, he flayed actor Pawan Kalyan for talking loud about his Leftist icon ‘Che Guevara’ and on the other hand openly supporting Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate. He felt that actor Nagarjuna meeting Modi might be to save his skin, following allegations of land scam. Dr. Narayana also cautioned the Telugu Desam Party that joining hands with a communal party like the BJP could amount to ‘playing with fire’.
The party will contest in 24 Assembly constituencies in the region, viz., Paderu and Payakaraopet (Visakhapatnam), Palakonda (Srikakulam), Salur (Vizianagaram), Rajahmundry Rural and Kakinada (E.G.), Eluru (W.G.), Vijayawada West, Nuzvid and Mylavaram (Krishna), Ongole and Yerragondapalem (Prakasam), Tirupati and Srikalahasti (Chittoor), Badvel and Kadapa (Kadapa), Pathikonda (Kurnool), Guntakal and Anantapur (Anantapur), Guntur-I, Vinukonda and Mangalagiri (Guntur), Nellore Rural and Sarvepalli (Nellore).
