The experience of ‘wind in the face’, is one solid reason that attracted Bobba Pavan, a young doctor, to put in hefty money for motorcycles rather than on sports and luxury cars that are way cheaper than the former. Dr. Bobba, known among the bikers fraternity for his solo rides across the country, has now become a proud owner of Harley Davidson’s new Road Glide Special, the first and costliest one touring motorcycle in Andhra Pradesh.
Off to Goa
Right after taking over the vehicle at the showroom on Tuesday evening, Dr. Bobba began his long journey to attend the 7th Indian Harley Owners Group (HOG) Rally on February 1 at Goa.
Dr. Bobba is native of Gudivada and works in Hyderabad. Though he could get the motorcycle from Hyderabad where he already bought a Fat Boy in the past, quick registration by the Andhra Pradesh Transport department in a matter of just two days for an imported bike and quick delivery by the Sunrise Harley Davidson (SHD) of the city made him choose the city. SHD sold over 20 motorcycles since its launch in August last. Other premium motorcycle brands also made brisk business in the past year.
Priority to safety
About the growing riding culture, Dr. Bobba says though the number of riders in the city is less compared to those in Hyderabad and other cities, riders here are more responsible and give utmost preference to safety.
Especially riders of Harley Davidson, which probably is the first company in the world to start the culture of group touring, are more responsible on road and promote brotherhood through rallies.
“It is all about enjoying the rides in an organised manner. We regularly have breakfast meets on weekends where local members meet in the early morning. HOG has a special culture which is spreading in India now,” says J. Suraj Mohan, a school principal and member of HOG from Tenali. He says he had fulfilled his teenage dream by owning a superbike.
Road Glide Special, a beast among the motorcycles has an engine displacement of over 1745 CC and weighs more than 380 kg and costs ₹40.06 lakh in the city, according to the store manager Suresh. The cruiser also comes with an LCD screen, maps, GPS tracking, music system and more, he said.
