Bollywood actors Ajay Devgn and his wife Kajol will be the brand ambassadors of Andhra Pradesh Tourism.

The Bollywood couple will be the face of the Andhra Pradesh tourism sector, identified as the growth engine by the Chandrababu Naidu government. Mr. Naidu has been making all-out efforts to woo investors from across the globe to the fledgling State which is in the process of building a new capital Amaravati.

Mr. Devgan, who was in the city on Tuesday to inaugurate the logo of an entertainment company, called on Mr. Naidu and deliberated on a range of issues besides volunteering to be the face of AP tourism.

“Both Ajay Devgn and Kajol are Padma awardees and have earned good reputation in the film industry. Promotion of tourism by the celebrity couple will give the much-needed boost to the sector in the State.

Mr. Devgn, incidentally, came to the city along with half a dozen investors,” said K. Lakshminarayana, Chief Consultant and Director of Andhra Pradesh Project Facilitators & Consultancy Services Limited (APPFCS).

Mini-digital theatres

The actor has shown interest in investing in projects like a theme park and mini-digital theatres across the State with small retail outlets attached with them. This could be done, he is said to have suggested, in small cities and slightly bigger villages.

Mr. Devgn is also said to have expressed his desire to set up a world-class media city and a presentation was also made on it in the presence of Mr. Naidu. The latter responded favourably to the project, according to sources in the government. Mr. Naidu also urged the actor to consider Andhra Pradesh for his film shootings.

Later, speaking to reporters, the actor said he has always been a great admirer of Mr. Naidu’s work. “I’ve been working in Hyderabad for the past 25 years and I’ve seen the city change and grow under his rule and the change was dramatic. With someone like him at the helm, this place and the surrounding areas are also ready for change. It’s good for him and good for the place also,” he said.

Referring to his future plans, the actor said: “There are some things we have spoken about… getting associated with. It’s too early to say anything about it now. I’ll talk about it in my next visit.”
