Admission process for CTU begins

Classes are proposed to begin from July 3

The Central Tribal University (CTU)coming up at Relli village in Vizianagaram is all set to start its admission process from this year.

Giving details of the academic programmes being offered, the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, which is the mentor university, Prof. G. Nageswara Rao, on Monday said two PG programmes, two integrated courses and four diploma programmes are being launched for the 2019-20 academic year. The PG programmes include M.Sc. (chemistry) with special focus on medicinal chemistry and Master of Social Work. The integrated courses are B.Sc. (mathematics, physics and chemistry) merged with M.Sc (chemistry) and BBA (tourism) merged with MBA (hospitality management). Both programmes will have exit options after graduation, said Prof. Nageswara Rao.

The diploma programmes include PG Diplomas in computer applications, cyber security, tourism and hospitality and diploma in horticulture.

For this academic year, the admissions for PG and integrated courses will be made through the entrance exam conducted by Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak. However, admissions into PG diploma and diploma courses will be made through the Directorate of Admissions, AU.

The notification was issued on April 22 and the last date for submission of online application is May 16, and the classes are proposed from July 3.

Transit campus

Though the CTU is coming up on a 500-acre land at Relli, the campus is not ready and the classes will be held at a transit campus in Praveenya Institute of Marine Engineering and Maritime Studies, Modavalasa, Vizianagaram for now. Further details are available at www. andhrauniversity.edu.in

‘No special quota’

On whether tribal students will have a special quota, Mr. Rao stated that there shall be no such provision and the reservation norms will followed as per the norms for all other Central universities. He, however, said a representation for 50% quota for tribal students was under study.

Apart from the normal academic programmes a few short-term skill development programmes for tribals such as making mango jelly and brick making will be taught free of cost by AP Skill Development Institute. “Students who have passed 10th can enrol,” he added.
