The State government entered into a MoU with the Adani Group to set up a renewable powered 5GW Data Centre in Visakhapatnam here on Wednesday. The Adani Group proposes to invest ₹40,000 crore on Data Centre Park and ₹30,000 crore on renewable power infrastructure. The first phase of the project is expected to complete in the next 18 months. The Group plans to set up the Data Centre at three places in 500-acre land.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said the Data Centre project would be a game changer not just for Andhra Pradesh for entire India. It is the first time in the country that renewable energy is being used in a Data Centre, which is usually power intensive. The investment in renewable power infrastructure would eventually generate 5,000 MW of renewable power for every 1 GW of Data Centre capacity. It would also help the State achieve its ambitious goal of renewable energy power of 18,000 MW, he said. “The proposed Data Centre and the eco system created thus would generate employment to about 1 lakh people,” he said. Group Chairman Gautam Adani said: “To be true, I couldn’t find a better place like Visakhapatnam to set up the Data Centre. The ecosystem, land value, sea coast are some of the reasons for zeroing in on Andhra Pradesh.”

The parks would be developed across three campuses, with each campus offering complementing value and together providing required reliability to Data centres. With the cooperation of the State government, the work would be started very soon, he said.

“It is a very proud moment for us to collaborate with AP to develop the world’s first green Data Centre parks.”

IT and Panchayat Raj Minister Nara Lokesh, IT Secretary K. Vijayanand and others were present.
