Accident claims three lives in Hassan

Three women died on the spot and five were injured when their vehicle overturned near Chakanahalli in Holenarsipur taluk on Sunday. The dead have been identified as Shashikala (35), Jayanti (20), and Yashodamma (45), residents of Chakanahalli.

They were all workers at SBG Distilleries in the industrial area near Hassan. They were returning home at 6 a.m. after the night shift when the accident occurred.

Negligence of the driver is said to be the reason for the accident.

Deepika (20), Manjula (28), Revanna (28), and Shobha (32), who were also in the vehicle, suffered injuries. The driver, who fled the scene after the incident, also suffered injuries.

Jayanthi was a student of A.V.K. College in Hassan. Owing to poverty, she was working in the factory in the evening. Shashikala was an anganwadi worker at Karaganahalli. Her husband met with an accident two years ago and suffered serious injuries. To support her family financially, she was working in the factory. She is survived by her husband and two daughters.

Deepika, who was seriously injured, has been taken to a hospital in Bengaluru, while others are being treated in Hassan.
