ACB chief Umesh Kumar shifted

Transfer comes in backdrop of CID probe into forged letter casting aspersions on DGP V. Dinesh Reddy

September 03, 2011 01:27 am | Updated 12:53 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

In a surprise move, the State government has on Friday transferred DG of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Umesh Kumar and posted him as the Chairman of Godavari Valley Development Authority, a post considered to be very insignificant.

Mr. Umesh Kumar's transfer comes in the backdrop of a CID investigation into an allegedly forged representation to the Centre casting aspersions on the DGP, V. Dinesh Reddy. The CID had arrested T. Sunil Reddy, a former journalist and consultant to Sri City SEZ, who had confessed to procuring documents which formed part of the petition, at the behest of Mr. Umesh Kumar.

Sources say Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy took a serious view of the developments and ordered the immediate shift of Mr. Umesh Kumar. He will now replace an IAS officer, Jagadish Chander Sharma, as the Chairman of the authority. Mr. Sharma is now posted as principal secretary, General Administration Department (Accommodation).

The government has posted D. Boobathi Babu, an Additional DG rank officer as ACB chief. Mr. Babu was earlier working as DG of Special Protection Force (SPF). T.P. Das who was waiting for posting, will now be the new DG of SPF. Meanwhile, a local court admitted the CID plea for taking Sunil Reddy into their custody for further interrogation. Sunil Reddy would be in police custody on Saturday and Sunday. He would have to be produced before the court on Monday.
