Hundreds of students led by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Prakasam district organising secretary T. Hanumanthu staged a demonstration in front of the Prakasam Bhavan here on Friday in protest against the YSR Congress Party government’s decision to introduce English as a medium of teaching in State-run schools.

The students came in a big procession and burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy urging the State government to take back its decision in the larger interest of students, especially from the downtrodden sections. The decision would result in more dropouts from schools, feared the leader of the ABVP, an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
