District Collector P.S. Pradyumna said the State government would hold a four-day A.P. Crafts Mela at the Sri Venkateswara University Stadium in Tirupati from December 17 to 20.
Addressing a press conference here, the Collector said the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department would conduct the exhibition in which hundreds of artists from the State would display works of handicraft.
For handicraft artists in the district, a skill development programme was under consideration by involving experts, he said.
‘Chosen destination’
The Collector said Tirupati was emerging as the most popular city in the State to “settle down” as many retired and elderly people from across the Rayalaseema region were interested in moving there owing to its proximity to the Tirumala hills.
“Tirupati is also the second safest, the fourth liveable and the sixth cleanest city in the country,” he said.
After hosting the Deepavali celebrations in October and the National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet in December, Tirupati would host a ‘Pakotsavam’ (food festival) in January, followed by the Global Spiritual Festival in February, he said.
Meanwhile, the Collector said the continuing Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi works were being completed on a war footing and water would be released to the district by December-end.
