October 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 12:53 pm IST - TIRUPATI:

The Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) is involving the citizens and other stakeholders in a big way in finalising proposals for the Smart City project.

Tirupati has been selected along with Visakhapatnam and Kakinada for the prestigious project that involves an outlay of a whopping Rs. 500 crore per city spread over a period of five years.

While citizen consultation is an important part of the Smart City Proposal (SCP), the corporation has already consulted 65,000 citizens through the Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS), besides 8000-10000 members of the Self-Help Groups (SHG).

“We are also holding extensive consultations with various social and professional groups like doctors, school teachers, university professors, advocates, tax consultants, TTD employees, journalists, hoteliers, youth associations, members of Tirupati Chamber of Commerce, Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) Tirupati chapter and the Institution of Engineers. We will finish the process soon”, says MCT Commissioner V. Vinaychand. The last date for holding consultations has been extended for a week from the earlier deadline of October-end, in view of the back-to-back events like Dasara, Tirumala Brahmotsavam and visit of VVIPs including Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week.

1000 suggestions

“We have a lot of followers on our Facebook page ‘Smart City, Tirupati’ and on twitter (https://twitter/com/smarttirupati). We have already received more than 1000 suggestions through social media platform on issues like drinking water, solid waste disposal, storm water and sewerage lines, transportation and e-governance”, Mr. Vinaychand said.

Citizens can express their views or suggestions at www.mct.gov.in/smarttirupati, or over WhatsApp at 9700000123 or over IVRS at 180030007347.
