: The indefinite fast taken up by Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham which saw some hint of a solution on Wednesday has taken an almost U-turn on Thursday as the events at the Government Hospital here took a sudden change in the evening. The health condition of the fasting leader deteriorated further and parameters like ketone level showed negative trend after he gave urine samples.

Meanwhile, neither any Joint Action Committee (JAC) leader nor government emissary has met the fasting leader with the result talks have remained deadlocked. When contacted, the BJP MLA Dr. Akula Satyanarayana, who played key role till Wednesday, said he tried his best to bring both the parties to the discussion table and facilitate ending of the fast at the earliest. “But, now it seems the scene is slowly going back and his health condition is deteriorating.”

Mr. Padmanabham’s fast reached eighth day and doctors treating him at the RGH have made it clear that he is co-operating with them. They said his health parameters were being checked every two hours and treatment was being provided accordingly. His sister and two of his relatives are staying in Mr. Padmanabham’s room.

Medical superintendent, RGH, Dr. Ramesh Kishore told reporters Mr. Padmanabham gave permission to take only urine sample and two litres of saline had been administered to him on Wednesday. It was stopped when he said it was enough. Dr. Kishore said administering saline was not enough and that the fasting leader can continue like this only for two more days.

Stating that his blood pressure showed 130/80, he said that doctors were conveying the health parameters to the Health Minister and the Health Secretary.
