Two workers engaged in stone quarrying were killed and another seriously injured when a portion of the hill caved in at Gollapalem village in Phirangipuram mandal on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Murugan (35) and Chinnabbayi (23). The injured, Chinnadora (19), was rushed to the Government General Hospital in Guntur.

The migrant workers hailed from Taramangalam village in Salem district of Tamil Nadu. Some 15 families have been living at Gollapalem village for the last 20 years and all of them have been engaged in digging work.

Locals said that incidents of this nature were rare in these parts.
