The Turpu Kapu Samkshema Sangham Srikakulam district unit organised Kapu Garjana programme at Meliyaputti to garner support to achieve a separate corporation of their community. The organisation also sought BC-A status for the caste.

The Association convener Surangi Mohana Rao, leaders of the community Mamidi Srikanth, S.Jogi Naidu and others said a majority of the Turpu Kapu youngsters would get more opportunities in education and jobs if BC-A status was given to the caste. “A majority of the people of Turpu Kapu community are living in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts. They will get justice if government considers it as a separate caste and extends most backward caste benefits,” said Mr. Mohana Rao.
