The Tirupati Central Excise Commissionerate has realised an impressive central excise duty of ₹1,096 crore up to January 2017 for the financial year 2016-17.
Additional Commissioner of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax P. Muthusamy announced this at the 74th Central Excise Day observed here on Friday, which marked the enactment of the Central Excise and Salt Act in 1944. The figure is roughly 85% of the target of ₹1,286 crore. Tirupati also realised a service tax of ₹403 crore, which is 82% of the target of ₹490 crore.
The Tirupati commissionerate covers Chittoor, Anantapur and Kurnool districts. It has been found that Sri City SEZ, having several major industrial units and offering a huge potential for revenue collection, is likely to necessitate creation of a separate division.
Awareness on GST
Mr. Muthusamy announced the introduction of 'Sevottam' model to bring in transparency in the day-to-day functioning and redressal of grievances. “We are all set to embrace the greatest change in the form of Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime and hence have launched a 'GST Mission All' project to create awareness among all the stakeholders”, he said.
Superintendent of Police (Tirupati Urban) R. Jayalakshmi distributed awards to top taxpayers in each division, while All India Radio (AIR) Director Nagasuri Venugopal presented certificates to the meritorious employees.
