January 09, 2010 09:16 pm | Updated 09:16 pm IST - Hyderabad

Demanding immediate roll back of bus fare hike made by AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), activists of TDP and CPI held demonstrations in the state capital and other parts of Andhra Pradesh.

TDP and CPI leaders held protests in Chittoor district and Vijayawada city by cleaning windowpanes of buses.

“The protests are to press for the demand to bring down the hike in bus fares,” the TDP and CPI leaders said.

Terming the increase in bus fares as anti-people, TDP and CPI workers organised rallies in Hyderabad, Guntur, Nalgonda and other places.

The APSRTC raised bus fare on Wednesday with fares of city bus services been increased to a minimum of Rs 5 and an across-the-board increase of 8 paise to 25 paise (per kilometre) for all district services.

The government, however, intervened and partially rolled back hike in bus fares on Thursday night, but the protesters demanded for complete roll back of tariff hike.
