String snaps, flag flies upside down

August 16, 2010 02:31 am | Updated 02:31 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The national flag was allegedly hoisted upside down in the Independence Day celebrations at the Chiranjeevi Eye and Blood Bank here on Sunday. However, the mistake was corrected immediately.

When Praja Rajyam leader Allu Aravind tried to unfurl the national tricolour as part of the I-Day fete at the blood bank, it fell to the ground as the string tied to it snapped. Later, when the flag was unfurled, the blood bank staff noticed that it was flying upside down.

Realising the mistake the staff restored the national flag to the correct position within minutes. In a clarification given by the blook bank administrative officer, it was noted that the mistake was purely a human error.

Meanwhile, State convenor of All India Forward Bloc, Muralidhar Deshpande, lodged a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police station seeking action against Mr. Aravind and the blood bank officials for insulting the national flag.
