February 16, 2017 12:56 am | Updated 12:56 am IST - MACHILIPATNAM:

Rural Development Minister K. Mrunalini on Wednesday announced that the State government would construct G+ 3 buildings in Vijayawada and Machilipatnam to provide housing for slum dwellers and urban poor. She said that in the first phase 300 houses would be constructed .

Reviewing rural and urban housing schemes being implemented by the State government here, Ms. Mrunalini on Wednesday accorded administrative sanction for the first phase of G+ 3 building project to be taken up in Vijayawada (East) Assembly constituency. “The G+3 buildings comprising 1,850 houses will be built in Machilipatnam,” added Ms. Mrunalini.

Ms. Mrunalini has rejected the Krishna district Zilla Parishad’s resolution on allowing construction of houses in 600 sq.ft. under various housing schemes of the State government. “The existing housing schemes do not allow construction of houses above 400 sft as they are meant for the poor. The government will not sanction ₹1.6 lakh financial aid if extent of area exceeds 400 sq.ft,” said Ms. Mrunalini.

However, the Minister has promised to bring the issue to the notice of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Zilla Parishad chairperson G. Anuradha and Pedana MLA K. Venkata Rao were present.
